| Our Travel Town track is about 3/8ths mile long. It circles the Travel Town Museum beginning from the historic station in the middle of the museum. One ride makes two circuits so that you can be sure to see all of the collection and plan your walking visit. |
| The Travel Town Railroad was built in 1976 by Gene Gustavson and Chet Peterson of Railroad Supply Corporation under a contract with the City of Los Angeles. It was intended as a replacement for the previous full sized operating equipment which had been taken out of service years earlier. |
| We have two operating locomotives and 6 covered passenger coaches available at this location. We also have one locomotive (the Yard Goat) awaiting refurbishment. |
| Our trains are 1/4th and 1/3rd scale models of actual locomotives and passenger cars. |
| In the interest of doing our small part to improve the quality of life in Los Angeles, all of our locomotives were voluntarily converted from gasoline power to propane in 1994. |
| Our locomotives and coaches are rotated weekly to assure consistent usage of all the equipment. |
| The original train in 1976 was a live steam locomotive, the Melody Ranch Special. It had been purchased from Gene Autry's Melody Ranch, for whom it was built. The locomotive lost it's boiler a few years later and was sold, but the original Melody Ranch coaches are still operating. |
